AU Watch Film and Documentary Unit is a Documentary Video Production Company within the Global Media Program of AU Watch. We make documentary films for ourselves and other organisations – including the AU, Member States, NGOs, local communities and even the private clients. We are rolling out our filmmaking program. It is a hands-on teaching style that gets students working with top-tier gear and leading industry professionals. Our people are career cinematographers, directors, editors, screenwriters, filmmakers, and actors who take time out from working in their field to share their knowledge with students and anyone interested in filmmaking and who want to hone their craft, and be inspired in their artistic vision.

Our inter-disciplinary programs are intensive, immersive, innovative, and hands-on. You’ll learn by doing, by making films, images, installations and books. You’ll work closely with mentors who are masters in their mediums and forge lifelong ties with a highly supportive community of artists.

WHY STORYTELLING?
Stories are part of our daily lives, in the anecdotes we tell to our friends, the books we read and the films we watch.
Stories are also recognised as an important way of connecting with any audience. Stories create magic and a sense of wonder at the world, teaching us about life, about ourselves and about others.
Stories are the way we understand and make sense of the world we find ourselves in.
Storytelling is a unique way for kids to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and can promote a positive attitude to people from different lands and religions.

Documentary Filmmaking
This course will give you the opportunity to learn and apply the skills of the documentary film maker.
On this course you will have the opportunity to learn and apply the skills of the documentary film maker. You will be introduced to the latest industry standard software used in the current television and film production industry, and taken through the documentary production process using industry standard production equipment including digital video cameras, audio recording equipment and professional lighting. At the end of the course will have created a documentary film that can be used in your portfolio of work!
You will study at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in our Creative Quarter Campus with cutting-edge facilities and industry standard equipment.
You will gain experience in the following aspects of documentary film production:
You will study at our Media Centre, AU Watch Global Media Programme with cutting-edge facilities and industry-standard equipment.
You should have completed at least Grade 12 secondary school studies and, as this is technology/software-focused, have a basic understanding of IT. You should have the required English language skills.
